The YMCA movement has deep roots in Bridgend. With a visible presence in the town since 1897, the organization supported its community through two world wars and during periods of economic upheaval.
More recently, we have been based at the YMCA buildings on Angel Street. These buildings were constructed for us in 1961 and were our home for the next 58 years.
Those buildings had not aged well. No longer fit for purpose, they were holding us back, rather than allowing us to agile in responding to the needs of our town’s future generation.
After many years of reflection, it was decided that we could no longer function well in those building. From April 1st 2020, we have established an administration base on Coity Road. From this base, we will continue to serve our community. Our peripatetic services will now support people all over the County Borough.
Our new model of operating will help us to focus on the needs of young people across Bridgend and provide the youth & community services for which we exist.
It will also enable us to collaborate with partner and the wider community to develop a plan to bring a new fit for purpose YMCA to Bridgend town centre.
Since its inception, Bridgend YMCA has played a vital role in supporting the people of Bridgend. Long may this continue.
